AFA Cadet Gymnasium Modernization
U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado
The Cadet Gymnasium provides a centralized venue for Air Force Academy students and faculty to participate in a variety of physical training activities under one roof. The five-story, 439,951 SF facility, which was completed in 1960, contains an Olympic-size Natatorium swimming and diving pool, an intramural pool, three gyms, nine basketball courts, 21 handball/racquet ball courts, 24 squash courts, an indoor rifle range, and four indoor tennis courts, as well as separate facilities for wrestling, gymnastics, fencing, boxing, weight lifting, aerobic fitness, cheerleading, baseball, volleyball, judo, and scuba. The Cadet Gymnasium also houses a human performance laboratory, an athletic training room, locker rooms, and administrative offices of the physical education instructors and support staff. In recent years, the Cadet Gymnasium has been undergoing a variety of aesthetic, infrastructure, and functional improvements to modernize the aging facility. RMH served as the MEP engineer for this most recent modernization effort, which was completed over seven phases.
