The RMH Group awarded a Denver Post Top Workplace 2023 

The RMH Group has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2023 honor by The Denver Post Top Workplaces. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The confidential survey uniquely measures 15 culture drivers that are critical to the success of any organization: including alignment, execution, and connection, just to name a few.

The RMH Group is pleased to announce their newly formed acquisition and partnership with Technology Plus, Incorporated (TPI).

This partnership, effective December 1, 2022, brings together two firms that highly complement each other and will be able to enhance their services by being able to offer more to their clients.

Howard Feingold, President, and Founder of TPI states, “We have worked together on projects over the past 30 years, and now as one team, can position our client’s projects for today and the future. Our team will bring clients an integrated solution for green and smart buildings, campuses, and districts.” Now a true MEP/T firm, the company will be able to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services as well as technology design. MEP and technology integration will allow the firm the abilities to bring together experience and expertise by complementing each other, allowing clients a more seamless experience and added value to their projects.

RMH, founded in 1961, and TPI, founded in 1991, have over 90 years of combined experience. Headquarters will remain in Lakewood, Colorado with TPI employees joining the team on Colfax Blvd. The addition of TPI, has expanded the company beyond Colorado and Arizona, and now also has an office in California. Clients will continue to receive the same service from the team and enjoy the benefits of the additional capabilities provided.

The RMH Group (RMH) is pleased to announce that Mike Watkins was elected to the position of company president at the firm’s board of directors meeting held on May 18, 2021. Watkins previously served as RMH’s Chief Operating Officer and (before that) RMH Aerospace Group Market Leader.

Watkins began his career at RMH 21 years ago and quickly emerged as a respected leader and technical resource for other engineers within the company. As Market Leader of RMH’s Aerospace Group, he built long-lasting relationships with some of the most prominent firms in the aerospace industry and oversaw projects as large as $350 million in scale. Watkins also founded RMH’s Lean Committee, which has steadily streamlined operations within the firm.

Past RMH president Bill Green will remain with the firm as a principal and QA/QC specialist.

The RMH Group is pleased to announce that company president Bill Green, P.E., FDBIA, LEED AP was installed as President of ACEC Colorado during the organization’s annual meeting held on April 22. Bill was installed, along with the entire 2021-2022 Board of Directors, during this meeting. “I’m honored to be leading ACEC for the next year and look forward to helping all our member firms become better at the business of consulting engineering,” said Mr. Green.

How regularly changing energy codes affect electrical design professionals

The RMH Group is proud to announce the addition of Alberto Barrios Marquez, P.E., ATD, LEED AP, as a senior electrical engineer to the firm.

Alberto is a senior electrical engineer with extensive experience designing effective lighting and resilient electrical systems for complex, mission-critical projects including data centers, laboratories, corporate campuses, and manufacturing facilities. His Accredited Tier Designer designation from the Uptime Institute reflects his thorough knowledge of high-reliability, mission-critical facilities. In addition to working as a consulting engineer for more than 19 years, Alberto also served as a plans examiner for a local municipality.  Alberto earned a B.S. degree as an electrical and mechanical engineer from the University of Guadalajara.

“Alberto adds a tremendous amount of mission-critical planning and design expertise to our team,” said Eric Bunce, RMH vice president and team leader. “With his depth of knowledge in mission-critical systems, Alberto will help further expand RMH’s presence in the growing data center and telecommunications sectors.”

The RMH Group (RMH) is proud to announce that RMH building controls engineer Jason Beu recently passed the Professional Engineer (P.E.) exam in mechanical engineering and is now a licensed engineer in Colorado.

Prior to joining RMH, Jason served as an automation specialist for a major building controls company. While with RMH for the past four-and-a-half years, Beu has worked on a variety of project types including airports, laboratories, higher education buildings, data centers, central plants, recreational facilities, healthcare facilities, manufacturing plants, and office buildings. Jason earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University.

The RMH Group (RMH) is proud to announce that senior vice president Mike Watkins, P.E., and RMH project manager/shareholder Erica Moser, P.E., have been promoted to the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Aerospace Group Market Leader, respectively.

Mike Watkins began his career at RMH 19 years ago and quickly emerged as a respected leader and technical resource for other engineers within the company. Prior to this promotion, he served as RMH’s Aerospace Group Market Leader (now headed by Erica Moser) and has successfully completed well over 100 complex, innovative projects for such notable clients as Lockheed Martin Space Systems and Ball Aerospace. As RMH’s new Chief Operating Officer, Mike will be responsible for overseeing the firm’s day-to-day operational functions and improving efficiencies throughout the organization. Mike, who earned AGC CM-Lean designation in 2016, founded RMH’s Lean Committee, which has steadily streamlined operations within the firm—and he continues to head this important group. He is also a Professional DBIA through the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) and has overseen design-build projects as large as $350 million in scale.

As Team Leader, Erica Moser will be charged with overseeing the RMH’s Aerospace market sector team and further expanding RMH’s presence in this growing sector. Erica, who joined RMH in 2010, is also a shareholder and an accomplished project manager and mechanical engineer on RMH’s Aerospace market sector team. She is President-Elect of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Rocky Mountain Chapter and is a Young Engineers of ASHRAE (YEA) Committee Member. In addition, Erica is a Professional DBIA and active member of that organization.

The RMH Group (RMH) is proud to announce that Charlie Basil and Erik Johnson recently passed the Professional Engineer (P.E.) exam in electrical engineering and are now licensed engineers in Colorado.

Basil has been with RMH for his entire professional career including a summer internship during college. He has designed electrical systems for higher education facilities, central plants, data centers, military bases, manufacturing facilities, and water/wastewater facilities. Basil earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Colorado School of Mines in 2014 and is also a licensed electrical apprentice (Colorado).

Johnson has also been with RMH for his entire professional career including an internship during college. His professional engineering experience includes projects for aerospace and other manufacturing clients, Federal research facilities, data centers, higher education facilities, central plants, a petrochemical control building, military bases, and water/wastewater facilities. Johnson earned a B.S. degree in engineering (with electrical specialty) from Colorado School of Mines in 2014.

The RMH Group (RMH) is proud to announce that company president Bill Green, P.E., DBIA,  LEED AP was named as one of only 20 industry leaders chosen to be in the 2018 inaugural class of Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Fellows. Designated Design-Build Professional Fellow status is the highest level of DBIA Certification and acknowledges the achievements of the nation’s most accomplished design-build professionals. Green was inducted into the 2018 inaugural class of DBIA Fellows during a ceremony held on November 8, 2018, at the 2018 Design-Build Conference & Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Green has been active with DBIA since 1994. He served as founding president of DBIA’s Rocky Mountain Region in 2002 and currently serves on the DBIA Rocky Mountain Region Board. Green also served on the DBIA National Board of Directors as Chapter Liaison from 2003 to 2005 and then served as a regular Board Member from 2005 to 2007. In addition, Green was on a task force that wrote the DBIA Design Management Guide.

Elevation to Fellow status celebrates individual career achievements and promotes DBIA principles through the DBIA College of Fellows. DBIA Fellow status is limited to 2% of Designated Design-Build Professionals who are elected to Fellowship by a jury of their peers.

In order to be eligible for DBIA Fellow status, all Fellows met the following requirements:

  • At least 10 continuous years as a Designated Design-Build Professional™, as well as 10 continuous years of membership in DBIA
  • Notable career contributions to the design-build profession
  • Notable contributions to DBIA organization
  • Election by the Jury of Fellows
  • Continuous DBIA membership

RMH senior vice president Mike Watkins was recently interviewed on Mile High CRE. In the interview, Mike discusses his leadership style, his greatest career success so far, and how his role as a baseball coach helped shape his management approach.

The RMH Group (RMH) is proud to announce that RMH mechanical engineer Connor Metzger recently passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and is now an Engineer Intern (EI). The FE exam is the first of two examinations that engineers must pass in order to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the United States.

Metzger is a mechanical engineer who had previously served as an RMH intern. Metzger has worked on a variety of facility types including a pharmaceutical clean room, a training center, a community center, several office buildings and an eating disorder treatment facility. Metzger earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado School of Mines.

An article featuring RMH president Bill Green was recently published in AIA Colorado. The article discusses Bill Green’s many contributions to the firm over his long career, along with his emphasis on collaborating with architects to deliver high-performing, energy-efficient buildings for his clients.

Five RMH engineers participated in an event on April 13 to assemble new bicycles for local kids in need. The bikes were assembled at Big Ring Cycles located in Golden, Colorado. The bike assembly was organized through the Wish for Wheels organization, a non-profit with a mission to change kids’ lives with the gift of a new bike. After the bikes were assembled, they were transported to Vivian Elementary School in Lakewood for distribution to a second grade class. The RMH participants in the event were Jeff Elsner, Alex Infante, Penny Jordan, Rick Phillips, and Michelle Swanson. The local office of Trane also helped to organize the event..

Englewood, Colorado

A ceremony was held on April 9, 2018, to dedicate Kent Denver School’s new middle school. The new 35,000-square-foot facility nearly doubles the previously available instructional and community spaces for Kent Denver’s middle school students.

At the heart of the building, the soaring John Kuntz Commons enables the entire middle school gather for assemblies, performances, and community-wide events, while dedicated grade-level common rooms in the building’s three wings allow students and teachers to come together in smaller groups. This multi-use space features three collaborative studios for tutoring and small group work, a faculty work area and lounge, and a wall of flexible doors to open to the space outdoors. The middle school’s Centennial Center serves as an innovative learning hub with multiple collaboration studios, an outdoor classroom, and more than 1,000 books.

The LEED-registered facility (goal of Platinum certification) was designed with a focus on sustainability and respect for the environment. As the project’s mechanical engineer, RMH crafted a truly energy-efficient heating and cooling system featuring an evaporative rooftop unit with displacement ventilation, radiant floor heating, a condensing boiler, and a condensing hot water heater. With the future addition of photovoltaic panels, the facility could achieve net-zero energy, meaning the school would produce as much energy as it consumes. If the facility achieves LEED Platinum certification, it would be the third facility on campus to meet this sustainable design milestone.

Four of RMH’s projects were recognized among the winners of the 2012 Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mountain States Best Projects competition. More than 100 entries were considered for the regional competition. RMH projects won awards in the following categories:

  • Sports/Entertainment: Toyota Elephant Passage, Denver Zoo (Best Project Category Winner and Special Judges’ Recognition as one of three Best Overall Regional Project finalists). RMH subcontracted to CLR Design, from Philadelphia, Penn., to provide mechanical and electrical engineering and energy modeling for the new 10-acre, LEED Platinum-certified exhibit.
  • Green Project: NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC), University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (Best Project Category Winner). RMH subcontracted to H+L Architecture to provide mechanical and electrical design for this LEED Gold-certified facility.
  • Government/Public Buildings: Fort Carson Warrior Transition Barracks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District (Award of Merit). RMH subcontracted to Heating & Plumbing Engineers to provide mechanical design and energy modeling for this LEED Gold-certified barracks.
  • Landscape/Hardscape/Urban Development: Centennial Center Park, City of Centennial (Award of Merit); submitted by Turner Construction Co. RMH subcontracted to Design Concepts to provide lighting design for the new park.
