The Alfred A. Arraj U.S. Courthouse, a 321,000 SF courts and office facility, is the newest addition to the Federal District in downtown Denver. The 10-story building contains 10 District courtrooms, four Magistrate courtrooms, and a two-story pavilion housing the Special Proceedings courtroom. With a goal of LEED Gold certification, the design incorporated over 100 innovative sustainable building features to reduce the overall building electrical demand, including maximized natural daylighting, underfloor displacement ventilation, evaporative cooling, and photovoltaic panels. Over the nearly decade-long design and construction period, the courthouse was adapted to respond to the evolution of the LEED program and to meet enhanced security requirements.
