CU-Denver Anschutz’s new central plant provides chilled water and steam to more than 20 buildings on the Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC), home to 160 acres of educational, patient care, and research space on the former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center site. The RMH Group initially served as the quality assurance representative assisting CU-Denver AMC with troubleshooting, scope development, quality control, and construction administration for the two expansion phases of the plant, consisting of two 2,000-ton and four 2,200-ton centrifugal chillers and nine 2,500 GPM cooling towers. In a similar capacity, RMH also developed a chilled water study/buildout plan setting the course for several years of campus growth.
More recently, RMH has been serving as the design team project manager and mechanical/electrical engineer for the Phase 3 and Phase 4 expansion projects. The Phase 3 expansion involved addition of a 90,000 pph high-pressure steam boiler with an economizer, a deaerator, water treatment system upgrades, and a combustion air air-handling unit with energy recovery. The Phase 4 expansion features a new 2,200-ton chiller, two new cooling towers, electrical/structural modifications, and a process control system upgrade.
