With the distinction of being the highest bridge in the United States (and, until recently, the world), the Royal Gorge Bridge has served as a popular tourist attraction for more than 80 years. Tragedy occurred in June 2013 when a devastating wildfire destroyed 48 of the 52 structures located on the 360-acre Royal Gorge Bridge & Park site including the aerial tram and and the park’s visitor center. A rebuilding effort has delivered new amenities to park visitors. The first new building to come online is the 20,000 SF Royal Gorge Bridge & Park Visitor Center containing a restaurant, ticketing services, a gift shop, a museum, an uncovered deck, and outdoor seating. RMH served as the project’s mechanical/electrical engineer.
