USU Chilled Water and Cogeneration Expansion

Utah State University

Logan, Utah

The RMH Group served as the mechanical/electrical engineer for a design-build project to add a cogeneration system (producing power and steam) and 5,200 tons of central chilled water capacity to Utah State University’s (USU) campus energy plant. Along with three chillers, the chilled water portion of the project included distribution piping and phased connection to 22 buildings. A simple-cycle combustion turbine generator, capable of producing up to 4,250 kW of power, is connected to a single-pressure heat recovery steam generator to provide a base-load source of campus steam.
