Representative Perlmutter Keynote Speaker at Golden Hill Reception
January 14, 2008
A reception was held today at the Golden Hill Office Centre in Lakewood, Colorado, to announce the facility's LEED-EB registration and newly installed rooftop photovoltaic system. Representative Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), who served as the event’s keynote speaker, explained that his local office is located in Golden Hill, making it the only district office residing in a LEED-registered building with an on-site renewable energy feature.
Lakewood Mayor Bob Murphy, RMH president Bill Green, Namaste Solar co-owner Stephen Irvin and Green Clean Pros president/CEO Michael Richardson also spoke at the reception. Representatives for Propp Realty, the building’s owner, were present at the ceremony. Propp Realty, The RMH Group, Namaste Solar Electric and Green Clean Pros were all instrumental to Golden Hill’s recent improvements.
RMH served as the LEED consultant and provided design to integrate the three roof-mounted 10 kW photovoltaic arrays with the facility's existing electrical system. This on-site renewable energy source is projected to generate up to 2% of Golden Hill's energy needs. Internet users can observe current and historical performance data of the facility’s photovoltaic arrays.
“The RMH Group is proud to have designed the photovoltaic system for Golden Hill Office Centre and managed the LEED-EB rating of the building. Golden Hill is an excellent example of how America can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and show our commitment to environmental stewardship. I want to thank everyone on this team for their hard work and support in making this a reality,” stated Bill Green, president of The RMH Group.
RMH has resided at Golden Hill since the building's opening in the mid-1980s. The firm engineered the facility’s original design, which was recognized with an ASHRAE international energy award.
Other recent upgrades to Golden Hill include:
- Newly installed elastomeric reflective roof enhancement to preserve existing roof materials and seal and cool the roof
- Expanded recycling program resulting in 70% of building waste or 12.99 tons being diverted from landfills in a one-month period (December 2007)
- New green cleaning program
- 40% of total building energy purchased from renewable energy sources
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED-EB stands for LEED for Existing Buildings.
